Lady ‘Cats Finish 4th Despite Losses

McGEHEE - Rison struggled to get much offense going against McGehee last Friday in their 8-3A conference finale, the Lady Wildcats managed to keep the Lady Owls in check for much of the game despite being out-hity 10-3.McGehee used a hit batter, a double and single to score two runs in the third before adding its final score in the sixth off a double a ground out.Rison, meanwhile, did not get a baserunner aboard until the Rhagen Price singled with two out in the fourth. The Lady ‘Cats got two more in the six off an error and a single by Riley Hyatt, but the runners were stranded.Haven Simpson had a two-out single in the seventh.Shyanne Swaim was the starting pitcher for Rison. She went three innings before Raily Smith tossed the final three frames. Combined they had 10 hits with one walk and one strikeout.Despite the loss, the Lady Wildcats did earn the no. 4 seed in the final 8-3A standings. They will face the Genoa Central Dragons (14-10), the top seed from the 7-3A, in the first round of the Class 3A Region 4 Tournament at 3 p.m. Thursday in Bismarck. Should Rison (7-13) win, they would earn a berth to the Class 3A State Tournament set for next week at Harrison.DeWitt 21, Rison 0DEWITT - The DeWitt Lady Dragons scored 16 runs in the first inning and capitalized on five errors as they rolled over the Rison Lady Wildcats, 21-0, in an 8-3A conference game last Thursday at DeWitt.The Lady Dragons had a grand slam homerun, a two-run homerun and a three-run triple in the bottom of the first to take control of the game. Eleven of those 16 runs were scored with two out.DeWitt added five more runs in the second before game ended after the Lady ‘Cats batted in the top of the third.Railyn Smith had the one hit for Rison.  Smith, Rhagen Price and Shyanne Swain pitched for the Lady ‘Cats....
