10 YEARS AGO AUGUST 26, 2015 Schools across the Arkansas, including those in both the Cleveland County and Woodlawn school districts, will be equipped with a new smart phone program this school year that will quickly notify law enforcement and other emergency personnel anytime there is a crisis on campus. The 2015 School Safety Act now requires each school to be equipped with a 'panic button' system that quickly notifies the police, ambulance service, fire department and other emergency responders anytime there is an emergency situation on campus. The system also notifies school personnel at the same time.Citing differences with the Democratic Party on supporting funding for Planned Parenthood, District 10 State Representative Mike Holcomb of Pine Bluff switched to the Republican Party last Thursday in a formal announcement with Governor Asa Hutchinson at the Arkansas Republican Headquarters in Little Rock. Holcomb's district encompasses all of Cleveland County east of Saline River, as well as a portion west of the river. Cleveland County Republican Party Chairman Jimmy Cummings said he hopes the decision by Holcomb to switch party affiliations will spur more local Democrats to do the same. Kickstart Cleveland County, the new county-wide community development initiative, announced that it will begin hosting a number of resource meetings to help people start their own small business or even start a small farm.More than 100 people, including those from Warren, Arkansas City and Fayetteville, participated Saturday in the Special Olympics Rodeo at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds in Rison.
