10 YEARS AGO FEBRUARY 3, 2016 TDS Telecommunications has sold its Cleveland County internet and telephone operations to ARK-O Holding Company. The change in ownership became effective January 1. ARK-O, based in Seneca, Missouri, is a family-owned business.The Kingsland City Council approved salaries for city workers and elected officials, including $3,780 for the mayor. The council also approved the appointment of Nick Bennett to a one-year term as fire chief.The Arkansas Convention of States is organizing a town hall meeting here Saturday to discuss the efforts to hold a national 'Convention of States' to curtail what organizers call an overreach of the federal government.20 YEARS AGO FEBRUARY 8, 2006 Gaylon and Mary Green of the 'Y' community managed to escape from their burning home before a fire in the attic completely destroyed their residence early Sunday morning. The family's two small dogs are believed to have died in the fire.The Cleveland County Quorum Court voted Monday night to pay the county's portion of an annual payment to the District Judges Retirement Fund, ending an issue that has dogged the county since last October. The decision came after a discussion period with District Judge Ronnie Phillips that lasted about one and a half hours.
