10 YEARS AGO OCTOBER 21, 2015 Alderman Marvin Crain of the Kingsland City Council once again questioned what kind of paper trail has been left documenting more than $6,000 the city is paying to have an emergency siren repaired. The siren in question is a tone alert system that sends out a different tone to notify a specific emergency situation: fire, tornado, etc.Monday evening capped off the close of an experience for British soldiers visiting Rison through Mayor Vernon Dollar's Veterans Worldwide Assistance Program. For the past week, the organization brought a group of soldiers to Rison through its partnership with Forward Assist, a charity organization based in England, allowing the veterans an opportunity to experience a new culture. The visiting British veterans were treated to a hog hunt, a deer hunt, fishing, and a trip to the state capitol to meet with Governor Asa Hutchinson, along with numerous other activities.William King will remain as president of the Cleveland County School Board for another year following Monday night's meeting of the board, with all officers to remain the same.A beautiful fall day and less competition seemed to help the Rison in The Fall Festival bounce back from a disappointing performance in 2014. It was estimated that about 1,000 people were on hand for Saturday's event held at Pioneer Village.Rison's six touchdowns were scored by six different players in the Wildcats' 40-0 shutout of the Parkers Chapel Trojans here last Friday night.20 YEARS AGO OCTOBER 12, 2005 Frank Lewis, Jr., 40, of Rison, pleaded guilty to first degree murder and three other charges Tuesday involving the death of Marci Robertson, 35, of Pine Bluff, whose body was found inside a burned out pickup truck outside Rison last November. Judge Larry Chandler, in Circuit Court here, sentenced Lewis to 25 years in prison for the first degree murder charge.The Rison...
