10  YEARS  AGOSEPTEMBER  16,  2015Kingsland Mayor Charles Crain said he intends to present the law enforcement agreement being offered by the Cleveland County Sheriff's Department to the city council Monday night for approval. Meanwhile, at least one council member, Jennifer Williams, said she is having second thoughts about supporting the measure after hearing feedback from the community. The agreement was unanimously approved by the county Quorum Court Sept. 3. Under the agreement, the county sheriff's department will respond to law enforcement calls from within the Kingsland city limits, effective January 1, 2016. The Kingsland council voted to abolish its part-time city marshal's office and replace it with the sheriff's department.The annual Cleveland County Fair & Livestock Show is underway this week at the fairgrounds here.Gateway Bank has donated the old Bank of Rison building at the southeast corner of Second and Main streets to the Pine Bluff-Jefferson County Economic Opportunity Commission, which agency officials say will allow them to expand operations inside Cleveland County to help more low-to-moderate income individuals and families.
