10  YEARS  AGOSEPTEMBER  23,  2015The Kingsland City Council unanimously approved a one-year contract with the Cleveland County Sheriff's Department to provide law enforcement for the city beginning January 1, a move city officials say could save the city about $18,000 a year. The move comes after the city council voted in August to eliminate the part-time city marshal's position.Amber Helms of Woodlawn was crowned 2015 "Miss Cleveland County" during the fair pageants Saturday evening at the fairgrounds here. Among her prizes was a year's tuition to attend the University of Arkansas at Monticello.The Cleveland County School Board held its first-ever regular monthly meeting at Kingsland Monday night, with more than 20 people taking in the proceedings. It marked the first time the board has met at Kingsland since the former Kingsland and Rison districts consolidated in 2004 to form the Cleveland County School District and board.Wendy Webb and her son escaped without harm when fire destroyed their home on Niven Road Tuesday night. The family did lose a pet in the fire. A car parked in front of the house was also destroyed. The house was fully engulfed in flames when firemen arrived on the scene about 10 o'clock.The Rison Wildcats overcame three different leads by Camden Harmony Grove to edge the Hornets, 29-20, here last Friday night, while at Woodlawn, the Bears dropped a 12-6 decision to the Hermitage Hermits.20  YEARS  AGOSEPTEMBER  14,  2005Two local school board positions will be decided Tuesday, when voters go to the polls for the annual school elections. In Zone 3 of the Cleveland County School District, the incumbent Sandra Wright of Rison, is being challenged by Mark Rivers of Kingsland.
