HORATIO - Going into last week's Class 2A South Region Baseball Tournament at Horatio, Rison Baseball Coach Josh Smeltzer said he felt his Wildcats were probably the second best team from the 8-2A conference. It turned out that he was wrong - the 'Cats were the second best team in the region.

QUITMAN - The Rison Wildcats' 4x100 relay team came within 1/100th of a second of claiming the Class 2A State Champion but came up just short in a photo finish to the Fordyce Redbugs in the Class 2A State Track meet held last Tuesday at Quitman High School.

RISON - Chad Cope, the current baseball coach at Class 6A North Little Rock High School and a 1996 graduate of Rison High School, was approved as the new baseball coach for the Rison Wildcats during the Cleveland County School Board's regular monthly meeting Monday night.
The Woodlawn Bears congratulate Brayden Jones (no. 15) after smashing a three-run homerun in Friday's semifinal against Murfreesboro as the Bears routed the Rattlers, 19-4. Jones also had a double in the game and finished with four RBIs in the 19-4 rout. Woodlawn are seeking a third consecutive state title.

WOODLAWN - Erin West singled in the game-winning run with one out in the bottom of the eighth as the Woodlawn Lady Bears finished up their 8-2A championship season with a 6-5 victory over the Junction City Lady Dragons last Friday at Woodlawn.
