The Friendship Association District ladies auxiliary met on July 14th, 2022, with Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Dumas. Sister Mildred Carter presided over the meeting. We opened the meeting with a song of praise, “Count your Blessings”. Brother David Har‐rington opened the meeting in prayer.

County Offering New Alert Notifications to Residents

RISON - More than 100 resi‐dents of Cleveland County have so far taken advantage of a free alert system that notifies people of emergencies, weather alerts and even community events through text messages, emails, voice calls and other means.

CCSD Enrollment

RISON - The Cleveland County School District began the 2022-23 school year on Monday with the same number of students on campus as their last average daily membership indicated, 691. Superintendent Craig Dupuy said the district closed out the 2021-22 school year in May with 702 on campus.

Group Launches Internet Speed Survey

RISON - The Accelerate Cleveland County broadband committee is launching a coun‐tywide online survey this week to get a true reading of broad‐band speeds in the county. The data collected will be used to seek grants and other invest‐ments to improve service throughout the entire county.

Submitted by Linda Newman The Woodlawn High School Classes of 1964 and 1965 held an annual reunion June 25, at Center Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, where a potluck meal and all the trimmings was severed.

Senior Center To Offer COVID Shots Aug. 16

RISON - AFMC, the Cleveland County Senior Center and the Arkansas Department of Health are partnering to provide free COVID-19 Pfizer vaccines to anyone age 5 and older on Tuesday, Aug. 16. The vaccinations will be given from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

CCSD Millage Falls Short By 27 Votes

RISON - The Cleveland County School District’s request for a 5-mill tax increase to fund construction of a new gym, ex‐pand the school cafeteria, and renovate Rison Elementary failed by a 27-vote margin dur‐ing Tuesday’s special election.

Woodlawn Board Votes To Join Lawsuit Over COVID Money

RISON - The Woodlawn School Board voted Monday night to join a possible lawsuit challenging the Arkansas Leg‐islative Council’s authority re‐quiring school districts to use federal COVID relief money through the American Rescue Plan for teacher and staff bonuses rather than other uses.
