RISON - Rison United Methodist Church will be hosting a food pantry from 7:30 to 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, at an earlier time due to the heat.The church, located at 800 Main Street, holds its food pantry the fourth Saturday of each month.

Quorum Court Votes To Meet Sept. 22 To Address Vacancy

RISON - The Cleveland County Quorum Court voted to hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, to a declare a vacancy in the county judge’s office following the passing of County Judge Jimmy Cummings last week.

Poultry Testing Saturday at Livestock Barn

BLAIR JOINS COUNCIL - Before the start of last Thursday’s meeting, Justice of the Peace Ricky Neal swore in Suny Blair to take over the Ward 1, Position 1 seat on the four-member city council. She will complete the unexpired term of Sandra Laws, who resigned from the seat in May.  Blair will hold the position through Dec. 31, 2026, and is eligible to run for the seat next year.

Kingsland Closer To Annexing Store

KINGSLAND - Mayor Karen Wiscaver told the Kingsland City Council during its regular monthly meeting last Thursday that the city could soon be annexing the Dollar General store into the city limits, bringing a new stream of sales tax revenue into the city.

CCSB Passes Millage Election Resolution

RISON - The Cleveland County School Board officially approved a resolution during a special called meeting Tuesday night to hold a special election on Nov. 18 to ask voters to approve a 6-mill tax increase to fund construction of a new gym.
