10 YEARS AGO OCTOBER 22, 2014 On November 4, voters across Arkansas will decide two issues placed on the ballot by a petition of the people: Issue 4 which will legalize alcohol sales in all Arkansas counties, and Issue 5, which will raise the minimum wage to $8.50 per hour over a four-year period.The Bank of Rison has unveiled plans for its new building for downtown Rison and hopes to have clearance from the Arkansas Banking Department to begin construction soon, it was announced by Troy Duke, bank president.A costume contest for adults, teens and children is being added to this year's Rison Shine Trunk-or-Treat event set for Saturday, November 1, in downtown Rison.Despite having heavy competition for people's attention this past Saturday, Rison in the Fall Festival organizer Roy Phillips said he was satisfied with the turnout anyhow and is already setting his attention on expanding next year's event with expanded entertainment and added attractions.The Rison Wildcats overcame 104 yards in penalties and a couple of turnovers to notch their third shutout of the season, 40-0, at Parkers Chapel last Friday night. Meanwhile, Friday night at Strong, Jeffery Jones rushed for 290 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Woodlawn Bears to a 42-24 victory over the Bulldogs.
