10  YEARS  AGOOCTOBER  29,  2014Voters across Cleveland County will head to the polls this Tuesday to decide on a number of federal, state and local offices, as well as a variety of issues. The only contested legislative race involving Cleveland County this year is that for House District 10 between the incumbent, Mike Holcomb of Pine Bluff, a Democrat, and his challenger, Patricia Mays of Drew County, a Republican. Voters in Whiteville township in northeastern Cleveland County will decide if they want to ban the sale of alcoholic beverages in their township.Bruce Grubb was re-elected as president of the Cleveland County School Board. Harrell Wilson is board vice president, with Rickey Spencer as secretary.Rison Shine Downtown Development's Trunk-or-Treat and the Rison Lions Club's "House of Horrors" haunted house will be held this Saturday evening in the downtown area. The Trunk-or-Treat will feature a costume contest for three divisions. The "House of Horrors" will be held at the old Cleveland County Hospital and Nursing Home on East Magnolia Street.In a wild back-and-forth shootout that saw Rison lead six times in the game and Bearden with the advantage five times, Friday night's big 8-2A Conference battle was climaxed by a touchdown with just 27 seconds left that lifted the Wildcats to a 43-36 win over the Bears. Rison, 7-1 on the season, had fallen behind Bearden, 36-35, with 2:36 to go in the game before scoring the winning TD.20  YEARS  AGONOVEMBER  3,  2004A one-fourth cent sales tax to support the Cleveland County Ambulance Service was the only tax proposal to get voter approval in Tuesday's general election.
