10 YEARS AGOJULY 29, 2015Bill Randle, president of Treated Materials, Inc., announced Monday the pending sale of the company's Rison operations to Stella-Jones, a Canadian-based corporation that specializes in making pressure treated wood products. Treated Materials specializes in making treated utility poles used most commonly by power companies for electrical transmission lines. The company moved its operations from Gulfport, Mississippi, to a 40-acre site along Hwy. 79 just north of Rison in 2007. It is expected that there will be very little change at the Rison operation once the sale is completed. The Rison plant will be the company's western-most facility that treats southern yellow pine.Donnie and Mary Wilson of the Staves community and their family have been selected as Cleveland County's "Farm Family of the Year" for 2015.20 YEARS AGOJULY 27, 2005The trial of a Rison man, Frank Lewis, 39, accused of murdering a Pine Bluff man and then leaving his body inside a burned out pickup truck in November, 2004, has been set for October 12-14 at the courthouse here. Lewis will be standing trial to face first degree murder charges involving the death of Marcie Roberson, 35, of Pine Bluff. Roberson's remains were found inside a burned out pickup truck about three miles north of Rison off Unionville Road. The murder was the first in Cleveland County since 1994.Two Fordyce men, arrested in the string of arson fires set in the Kingsland area, were transported to prison Monday to begin serving their sentences after reaching a plea bargain with the prosecutor's office.
