CC Sheriff's Dept. Reports Local Scam

RISON - The Cleveland County Sheriff's Department posted a notice on its Facebook page Monday that it received a call from a county resident who suffered a sizable cash loss due to a scam from someone posing as a sheriff's deputy.According to the sheriff's department, the resident was called by two men claiming to be Cleveland County Sheriff deputies. The men used an app to make it appear the call came from the sheriff's department phone number. The men claimed warrants of arrests had been issued for the resident and the men demanded a sum of money be paid in bitcoin or the resident would face arrest. In this case, the sheriff's department reported that the resident went to bitcoin machines in another county and sent funds to the caller. The Cleveland County Sheriff's Department noted that law enforcement never calls anyone demanding money. When warrants are issued, they are served in person and bonds are posted through the court system. The sheriff's department warns that anytime someone calls demanding money it is usually a scam....
