10  YEARS  AGONOVEMBER  17,  2015The Kingsland City Council approved a healthier 2016 city budget and heard a report on a $250,000 street improvement plan for next year during its regular monthly meeting Monday night. Also, the recent decision to drop the town's marshal position netted more than $16,000 in savings.The Cleveland County School Board unanimously approved a one-time payment of $500 to all employees during its regular monthly meeting Tuesday night. Supt. Johnnie Johnson said the total cost for the school district employees would be $72,990, while the payments to the Head Start employees would be $12,665.A General Improvement Fund grant from the state, totaling $1,000, could help start a new food pantry for the Rison area that can help provide for those in need throughout the year.Two Kingsland men have been arrested and a third suspect is being sought for their alleged connection with an October 26 break-in at the City of Kingsland's storage building. It was reported that computers and electronics were stolen.Following a first round bye last week, the Rison Wildcats will open play Friday night at home in the Class 2A state football playoffs, facing the Gurdon Go-Devils.Cleveland County is off to another strong start for the 2015-16 deer season. As of Tuesday, it was reported that 3,067 deer had been harvested in the county so far after the modern gun season opened this past Saturday.20  YEARS  AGONOVEMBER  9,  2005The Cleveland County Quorum Court approved an offer by the American Legion on Monday to take over ownership of the historic American Legion Hut on Sycamore Street across the street from the court square in Rison, effective December 31, 2005.
