10 YEARS AGOJANUARY 20, 2016Scotty Holderfield, school facilities coordinator for the Southeast Arkansas Educational Cooperative, and a former school superintendent here, is scheduled to meet with the board of the Cleveland County School District next month to discuss facility changes and other topics. Holderfield provides guidance to the cooperative's 14 school districts on facilities-related issues. Board member Stan Sadler has recently mentioned projects ranging from new technology labs to a new gym at the Rison campus as possible targets in the future.The Pioneer Village Commission took its first step toward refurbishing the collection of historic structures on the grounds in Rison by approving a bid for a new roof to go on the 110-year-old "mercantile" building. It was the first official action taken by the newly-formed commission concerning improvements at the Pioneer Village.Bobby Dyer, 18, of Kingsland, was arrested by the county sheriff's department for his alleged connection with several burglaries, breaking or entering, and a vehicle theft that date back to September. Dyer is believed to have been involved with a number of burglaries in the Kingsland/New Edinburg area. The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible.Katelyn Mason scored 20 points, as the Rison Lady Wildcats downed the Woodlawn Lady Bears, 42-28, Friday night at Woodlawn. Sydney Weatherford led Woodlawn with 14 points. In the boys game, Chris Leaks and Jakory Thomas scored 12 points each to pace Rison past Woodlawn, 48-35.
