The Cleveland County Quorum Court unanimously approved a 2013 county budget Monday night that will have the county operating with about 7 percent less revenue than it did this year.
Monday night's meeting of the Cleveland County Quorum Court was the final meeting for four Justices of the Peace and two countywide officials, respectively: Elbert Miller of Kingsland, John L. McClellan of New Edinburg, John Reed of the 'Y' community, and Rickey Fore of Rison; Treasurer Becky Tollison and Sheriff Judy King, both of Rison. McClellan is retiring after 28 years of serving on the court.
Cleveland County's deer harvest seems to be off to a fast start this season, as the county ranked 6th overall, according to the latest deer harvest tallies issued by the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission on Tuesday. As of December 4, the county's deer harvest totaled 4,673, from bow, muzzleloader and modern gun.
The Woodlawn High School wrestling team made history Saturday, when it competed in the school's first-ever wrestling tournament at Little Rock Central High School.

A last minute bid to give county Road Department employees a 25 cents per hour raise failed before the Cleveland County Quorum Court Monday night, but a motion to give a $300 bonus for all county employees was approved. The county's 2003 budget, approved by the court during the meeting, projected nearly $1.3 million in revenue and more than $1.1 million in expenditures for the county General Fund. Projected revenues for the county Road Department totals nearly $1.4 million, with projected expenditures of over $1.2 million.
