The board of the Cleveland County School District accepted the resignation of long-time board member Jeff Prescott during its regular monthly meeting Monday night. Prescott, who was in his 11th year on the school board, said that in the aftermath of the loss of his son, Logan Prescott, in a fatal car accident in August that he felt it would be best if someone else served in his position. The board will seek letters from those interested in serving the remainder of Prescott's term.
The Cleveland County Christmas Parade and Festival presented by Rison Shine Downtown Development will be held this Friday evening.
Woodlawn School Superintendent Billy Williams said plans for the new music and art classrooms have been approved by the state facilities board and that he expects construction bids for the project will be opened in January.
Cleveland County Judge Gary Spears is asking the public for help in finding the person(s) responsible for taking down and vandalizing road signs throughout the county. 'What we're spending on signs could be spent on repairing roads and is just wasted money,' the judge said.

Two teenage suspects and a 23year-old man have been charged with the murder of Lonnie Brown of Rison at a Pine Bluff auto parts store last week. All three suspects are accused of being involved in the killing of Brown during a robbery at the Advance Auto Parts at 3006 West 28th Ave. Brown, 59, was pronounced dead from apparent gunshot wounds to the head. Brown was known to many in the community as pastor of Lighthouse Church and a 'shade tree' mechanic.
The Kingsland School Board gave Superintendent Sammy Hartwick approval Monday to proceed with the next step of a plan to possibly renovate and expand Kingsland High School with a 3,000 square foot addition to the front of the existing building.
