 10 YEARS AGO APRIL 30, 2014 A total of 49 Vietnam War veterans with affiliations to Cleveland County gathered at the county fairgrounds here Sunday afternoon to have an official group portrait made that will be posted inside the Cleveland County Courthouse in Rison. The oldest veteran in attendance was 85-year-old Johnie L. Trammell of New Edinburg, a career military man in the U.S. Army, retiring as a sergeant major.An effort is underway in Rison to collect items to help the victims of the devastating tornado that swept through the Mayflower and Vilonia area Sunday evening, killing several people and destroying numerous homes and businesses.The first of four public meetings explaining Cleveland County's proposed 2-cent sales tax will be held tomorrow evening at Woodlawn. The proposal will be placed on the May 20 primary ballot. The proposed tax would be dedicated specifically for the pickup and disposal of solid waste in the county, eliminating quarterly trash bills for customers.The Cleveland County Fair Association board is hosting its Spring Bull Ride Saturday evening at the fairgrounds arena here.Fourth District Congressman Tom Cotton visited with constituents for a little more than an hour last Wednesday afternoon at the FBT Community Park in downtown Rison as part of his 'Coffee With the Congressman' tour.Rison Mayor Vernon Dollar began assembling a committee Tuesday that will be dedicated to improving the Pioneer Village here, including the development of a new training center that will be aimed at helping the public learn more about growing their own vegetables using 'sustainable' agricultural practices. The mayor said the city will be using a $10,000 General Improvement Fund grant from the state to make those improvements.The Woodlawn Lady Bears scored all five of their runs over the final three innings, as they pulled out a 5-3 victory over the Strong Lady Bulldogs to win the 7AA...
