School districts throughout the region have mixed emotions about a new School Choice bill that would essentially remove the racial component from the state's School Choice Act. The revised School Choice bill is a result of a federal court ruling last year that found the state's existing School Choice Act to be unconstitutional due to the racial component.
When the City of Kingsland decided to crack down on traffic violations last year, the city is finding out this year there is a cost that comes with that. The matter of increased court costs came up during the financial report at Monday night's meeting of the town council. It was reported that the city was paying about $65 per month in court costs last year. This year, the city's last two district court payments were for $676 and $789 more than 10 times higher than it was last year.
Cleveland County escaped any serious damage Wednesday night of last week when a line of thunderstorms roared through the area, with some trees toppled and minor flooding. However, in neighboring Lincoln County to the east, the storms produced an EF-1 tornado that damaged 32 structures in all, six of which were considered destroyed.

The Cleveland County Solid Waste Board discussed the possibility of having an auction to sell off solid waste equipment to help pay off nearly $100,000 in debt.
