10  YEARS  AGOAPRIL  15,  2015The old Woodlawn Elementary School building will be on campus for at least another year after the Woodlawn School Board rejected a construction bid that would have allowed the old building to be razed this summer.At a meeting last Thursday, held by the new Kickstart Cleveland County Community Development organization, a formal development plan for Kingsland and the surrounding area was announced, with a meeting next week to discuss the effort. About 20 people attended the public meeting at Kingsland City Hall for the initiative.The Cleveland County School Board approved adding one more step to the salary schedules for classified and licensed staff.20  YEARS  AGOAPRIL  13,  2005Residents and business firms in Rison will notice a slight increase in their water bills next month when a rate hike is applied four months later than it was originally scheduled to go into effect. The rate increase will reflect the 3 percent recommended to the city by the Arkansas Rural Water Association in 2003. At that time the city water department was starting to run into some financial problems and the A.R.W.A. revealed that the city wasn't charging enough to keep the department afloat financially.The board of the Cleveland County School District approved a list of contract personnel Monday night that included seven fewer high school positions for the 2005-06 school year. The approval of the contracts was one of the first official steps that the district has taken to merge the high schools at Kingsland and Rison to the Rison campus next school year. Supt.
