Publication of the Herald will resume next week.20 YEARS AGODECEMBER 14, 2005Voters in Cleveland County soundly rejected both the highway and higher education bond proposals that were voted on during Tuesday's statewide special election. Both of the proposed measures were also trailing in voting across the state. In Cleveland County, only 493 of 5,341 registered voters took part in the special election, which equates to a voter turnout of about 9%.The Rison City Council unanimously approved a motion Tuesday night to request that the dispatcher in the county sheriff's department inform the Rison Volunteer Fire Department of emergency calls within their service area. It was reported that the dispatcher did not always contact the fire department when an emergency call came in. Mayor Delmar Fultz said he "would be happy to visit with county officials about the request."Rison alderman Andrew Roshell resigned his position on the city council. Roshell said he will soon be moving outside the city limits.Dennis Threlkeld, 68, of Monticello, escaped with what were described as relatively minor injuries Monday morning after the log truck he was driving barreled into some woods after failing to stop in time at the Highway 35-114 intersection south of Rison. Logs on the fully-loaded trailer shifted during the accident, sending them flying forward into the cab of the truck. Rescuers from the Rison Volunteer Fire Department worked for more than an hour using two "jaws of life" devices to eventually free Threlkeld.Rison Wildcat senior lineman Matt Ingram was honored in Little Rock Monday night as the State Farm Awards Class 2A Defensive Player of the Year as chosen by the staff of Hooten'...
