The Moore family has agreed to give the Pioneer Village property to the City of Rison, Mayor Vernon Dollar announced to the city council Tuesday night. In addition, Dollar informed the council that the city has begun issuing tickets to the owners of stray dogs as a way to address the dog problem, and that the city will soon begin pursuing unkempt properties inside the city.
County Attorney Tom Wynne will be reviewing Cleveland County's ordinance establishing a quarter-cent sales tax for an ambulance service to see if the money derived from the tax can be used to help local fire departments to buy rescue equipment.
Fresh off his induction into the American Poultry Historical Society's Hall of Fame, Jack England of Rison has been selected for yet another honor, this time, induction into the Arkansas Agricultural Hall of Fame. England is credited with pioneering the brokerage hatching egg business in America, and has been in the poultry business for many years.
The state review board of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program has listed the Beard House near Rison on the Arkansas Register of Historic Places. The Beard House is one of the structures on the grounds at what is commonly referred to as 'The Traveler' on Pumpkin Hill Road southeast of Rison. The dog-trot house is a restoration effort by Bob Abbott of Pine Bluff, who owns The Traveler. The Beard House is a ca. 1890 dog-trot residence originally located in Ouachita County.

The new Rison Civic Center committee had a chance to review some proposed floor plans during its first official meeting last week. The committee was formed with the purpose of securing land, developing plans and spearheading the overall effort to build a new community/ recreation center in Rison with a private foundation grant.
