10  YEARS  AGOFEBRUARY  11,  2015The board of the Cleveland County School District voted Monday night to approve a motion to refinance some existing bonds that will save the district about $140,000 in interest charges. Also at their regular monthly meeting Monday night, the board voted to select Stan Sadler to fill the Zone 4 vacancy on the board left by the resignation of former board president Bruce Grubb last month. In addition, the board approved contract renewals for high school principal Davy King, vice principal Tish Johnson, Rison elementary school principal Jeff McKinney, and Kingsland elementary school principal Danny Durey.The Kingsland City Council unanimously approved Mayor Charles Crain's recommendation Monday night to adopt a "rules of conduct" policy for the city's elected officials. The code itself is taken from a model policy crafted by the Arkansas Municipal League, an organization that helps cities with various issues, including legal matters.The Woodlawn School Board voted Monday night to renew contracts for Superintendent Dudley Hume, high school principal Jeff Wylie and elementary school principal Genell Davis. There were no candidates presented to the board for head football coach. Hume said a committee, headed by Wylie, is addressing the vacancy following the resignation of former head coach Zach Branch, who will be the defensive coordinator at Bauxite High School. Wylie said Woodlawn has received 19 applications for the head coaching vacancy at Woodlawn.Rison Shine Downtown Development announced that it will be visiting with a representative from the Arkansas Department of Parks & Tourism next week to review possible projects/grant opportunities for Rison and/or the surrounding area.The Rison Junior High Quiz Bowl team went undefeated, winning all seven of their matches to capture the Junior High Regional Quiz Bowl Tournament Championship hel...
