10 YEARS AGO MAY 22, 2013 Sigma Holdings, Inc., of Little Rock announced last Friday that it has entered into an agreement to acquire all of the outstanding stock of The Bank of Rison. Sigma consists of a group of investors led by Troy Duke of Little Rock and Lewis Ray 'LR' Gardner of Royal. On March 31, 2013, the bank had total assets of approximately $25.0 million and total liabilities of approximately $20.9 million. No terms of the purchase price were released by either party. For many years the bank has been located at the southeast corner of Second and Main streets here. Founded in the early 1900s, the bank was reorganized in 1932 during the Depression. Last year, Fordyce Bank & Trust announced that it would be buying The Bank of Rison, although that deal was later terminated by both parties.
A couple of encounters between a city council member and a pit bull prompted a discussion about vicious dogs running loose inside the city limits during the Kingsland City Council meeting Monday night. Council member Jennifer Williams said she had been chased by an unleashed pit bull on two different occasions and wanted to know if there were any city ordinances or state laws regulating vicious dogs.
Kelley Marie Jarvis is valedictorian and Joseph Kyle Morrison is salutatorian of the senior class for 2013 at Woodlawn High School.
The fourth through eighth grade Gifted and Talented students from Rison Middle School were on hand Monday morning to officially commemorate the raising of the first American flag on the new flag pole they donated to Veterans Park in Rison. The GT students raised about $1,400 for the new 55-foot flag pole.
