 10 YEARS AGO OCTOBER 1, 2014 On the county level, there are only two contested races in Cleveland County that will be decided by voters at the November 4 general election - circuit/ county clerk and county coroner. The Herald's election profile is featuring the race for county coroner between Buren 'B.J.' Johnson of the Staves community, a Republican, and Joe Rauls of Rison, a Democrat. They are seeking the position held by coroner John T. Reed, who is not asking for re-election. Both Johnson and Rauls enter the race with experience related directly to the coroner's office.Fourth District Congressman Tom Cotton of Dardanelle, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, announced that he will be visiting in downtown Rison Saturday afternoon as part of his 'Meet and Greet' tour across the state.The Rison in the Fall Festival will celebrate its 25th year on Saturday, October 18, at the Pioneer Village in Rison, with another lucrative barbecue cookoff and an expanded car show included in the activities, as additional details continue to be ironed out for the event.Sydney Doherty was crowned homecoming queen in ceremonies at Rison High School last Friday.Construction on a 'high tunnel/ hoop house' that allows gardeners to extend their growing season is currently underway at the Pioneer Village in Rison as the latest addition to the Rison Community Garden project. The project is being funded through a $1,650 grant from the Arkansas Coalition for Obesity Prevention, the same organization that funded the establishment of the Rison Community Garden last year.While the community and students at Woodlawn High School mourned the loss of 16-year-old Jonathan Drew Robertson to a car wreck last week, it was revealed during last Friday night's football game at the school that his passing provided hope for four people who were in need of organ transplants.The FBT Community Park on Main Street in downtown Riso...
