10 YEARS AGO SEPTEMBER 18, 2013 Administrators for the Cleveland County School District presented their annual 'Report to the Public' here Monday night, and Supt. Johnnie Johnson said that the last official count for enrollment showed 875 students in the district, which is up from last year. Nearly all of the buildings on the Kingsland School campus will soon be getting new roofs after the board of the Cleveland County School District approved a lower than expected bid for the project during its regular monthly meeting Monday night. The bid totaled $115,675. Jet Asphalt & Rock Company of El Dorado was awarded a bid to resurface 0.9 miles of Niven Road between Hwy. 79 and Main Street in the north part of Rison and 0.6 miles of Mt. Elba Road south of the Hwy. 35 intersection at the south edge of town. Aaron Tooke of Rye won a second term on the Woodlawn School Board on Tuesday, defeating challenger Edward 'Bugs' Andrews in the annual school election there. Tony White of near Rison was uncontested in the Zone 6 election for the Cleveland County School Board. White has been serving in an interim capacity on the board after Jeff Prescott resigned from the position. A new health insurance marketplace designed to provide people with a choice of plans to fit their needs and income will launch October 1 across the state, Kim Hooks, an Arkansas Department of Health public health educator reported at a public meeting here last Thursday evening. The City of Rison has contracted a dog catcher to begin picking up stray dogs this week, and pet owners are asked to make sure their pets are accounted for. Mayor Vernon Dollar said all dogs found running loose around town without tags will be taken immediately to a veterinarian in Warren for disposal.
