10 YEARS AGO SEPTEMBER 25, 2013 Hargan Construction Company of Batesville is expected to be putting the finishing touches on the new water lines for the City of Kingsland this week. Kingsland used $399,000 in federal disaster relief money to fund the project.
Cleveland County Judge Gary Spears issued an order Monday lifting the burn ban that had been in place for the county since September 6. The county received enough widespread rainfall last Friday to lessen the fire danger. Some residents were reporting anywhere from four to five inches of rain last Friday.
Hannah Gavin of the Pansy community, a student at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, was crowned 'Miss Cleveland County' during the pageant at the county fair Saturday night at the fairgrounds in Rison.
The Woodlawn School Board unanimously approved the 2013-14 school budget Tuesday night, but Supt. Dudley Hume warned that some unforeseen developments could force the district to make some changes. The budget approved by the board shows projected revenue of $5,241,244 and projected expenditures of $4,184,529.
The Cleveland County Sheriff's Department arrested B.J. Ballard, Jr., 32, of Rison last week for his alleged connection with a series of residential burglary, break-in and theft incidents.
