Bears Hammer Pirates; Fall at Ouachita

WOODLAWN - A 12-run second inning powered the Woodlawn Bears to a 16-0 win over the Drew Central Pirates in a non-conference game Monday afternoon at Woodlawn. The game ended in the bottom of the fourth by the 15-run rule.The Bears sent 18 batters to the plate in the second inning. Tyner Burris had two hits in the frame while Ty Motes had a double and Ethan Saeler had a single. Overall, Woodlawn had seven batters draw walks, three that were hit by pitches and one error to help generate the dozen runs.The Bears tacked on four more in the fourth to invoke the 15-run rule as Parker Arnold delivered a two-run double followed by a two-run single from Hollis Holderfield.The Bears finished with nine hits. Burris had two while Cash Hargis, Arnold, Holderfield, Logan Clark, Saeler, Motes and Tyler French accounted for the others.French and Burris combined to hold the Pirates to two hits. French got the start and the win after giving up two hits with four strikeouts. Burris threw the fourth without giving up a hit and had two strikeouts. Neither pitcher issued a walk.Ouachita 7, Woodlawn 3DONALDSON - Ouachita plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth to break open a 3-3 tie as the Warriors handed the Woodlawn Bears their first 8-2A conference loss of the season, 7-3, last Friday at Ouachita.Ouachita converted a walk, a hit batter and an error into two runs to give the Warriors a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the opening frame.Gavin Edmonds’ triple and Tyner Burris’ single in the top of the fourth pulled the Bears even, 2-2, before the Warriors regained with a bases-loaded single with two out in the bottom of the fourth to go up 3-2.Woodlawn pulled even again in the fifth when Parker Arnold walked to start the inning and eventually scored on a passed ball.Ouachita used an error, a double and hit batter to load the bases with no one out in the sixth.
