WOODLAWN - After having an unexpected week off last week due to a forfeit, the Woodlawn Bears will return to action this Friday when they host the Dermott Rams for homecoming at the Carl Jones Sports Complex. The junior high teams play at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity teams at 7 p.m.
This will only be the second time that the Bears have seen action in the past month. After a scheduled open date on Sept. 23, Woodlawn traveled to unbeaten Strong on Sept. 29 to open South Conference. The Bears were scheduled to play Hermitage folast week for league game but the Hermits forfeited due to having only eight players available.
Friday's matchup with Dermott will be Woodlawn's first home game since Sept. 15.
The Rams come in with a 1-4 record overall and 0-2 mark in conference play. Dermott's lone victory came in a 40-8 win over Cedar Ridge in its second game of the year on Sept. 8. The Rams fell to Parkers Chapel 70-62 in the season opener before losing to Strong (44-8) and Spring Hill (46-0) in conference play.
Dermott lost to Augusta, 5244, in a non-conference game last Friday night at Augusta.
Woodlawn, meanwhile, will look to end a two-game losing skid on the field. Before getting the forfeit from Hermitage last week, the Bears had lost to Class 4A Genoa Central, 22-14, in a non-conference game on Sept. 15 before falling to Strong, 4820, two weeks ago on Sept. 29.

"At Strong, we had six guys who were doing their part and two who weren't," he said. "Strong has the athletic ability to make that up when someone doesn't do their part. We don't.
