Bears Work Three Quarterbacks During Rose Bud Football Camp

WOODLAWN - All three quarterback prospects got snaps Tuesday when the Woodlawn Bears attended a seven team camp for eight-man football hosted by Rose Bud High School. Woodlawn was the only Class 2A school at the camp while the others were Class 3A teams. Those schools at the camp included the defending "club" series state champion Mountain View along with Cedar Ridge, Fountain Lake, Marshall and host Rose Bud. Bears Coach Zach Meyer said Brayden Jones, Aden Moore and Garrett Weatherford all had opportunities to play quarterback while also filling in at other skills positions on offense. Jones and Moore both lined up in the I-back position when they were not behind center while Weatherford was used as a wide receiver. All three got touches in their other skill positions. Offensive Coordinator Trent Young said they are still working with various players at fullback. Ethan Oliver and Matthew Green have both been seeing time there. Overall, Meyer said he felt all three quarterbacks played well at times. He said the run game was effective with a short whistle ending what would have been some long runs, including some for touchdowns. He said the passing game was OK at times. Defensive Coordinator Alan Neill said he was satisfied with their run defense but they still have some work to do against the passing game in the defensive secondary. Meyer noted that Jones had a great camp playing at linebacker. "He was going downhill hard," Meyer said. One overall concern that Meyer did note was that they seemed to tail off as the camp progressed, pointing that out that conditioning will be priority moving forward. Tuesday's camp was the first major practice session for Woodlawn since the Arkansas Activities Association's "dead period" came to an ended on July 8. ...
