Relay Team, NFL Players Latest Inductees Into Rison Hall of Fame
RISON - The Second Annual Rison Sports Hall of Fame banquet and awards ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the White Hall Community Center, 9801 Dollarway Road in White Hall.The banquet and ceremony, sponsored by the Rison Booster Club, will pay tribute to the five newest inductees into the Hall of Fame. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Advance tickets are available at the FBT Bank branch in Rison or through CashApp at $risonbooster.Dustin Prescott, booster club president, and Brian Phillips, coordinator for the new Rison Sports Hall of Fame, organized the Rison Sports Hall of Fame last year. The first class included legendary college and high school football coach Jimmy “Red” Parker, All-State football and basketball player Havis Hyatt, former Arkansas Razorback All-Conference football player George Walker, long-time Rison High School athletic and community supporters Ray and Roy Martin, and the 1950 state championship football team.According to the bylaws of the Rison Sports Hall of Fame, each class of inductees can consist of six individuals, or one team and four individuals. Those considered for the Hall of Fame can be athletes, coaches, contributors or teams.Prescott said a Rison Hall of Fame executive committee narrows the list of nominees to 10 finalists, and members of the Rison Booster Club then vote on those nominees by ranking them in order of preference. Those nominees not selected this year are automatically included in the 10 finalists for next year.This year’s inductees include:1980 Rison Wildcat Girls Mile Relay Team - In 1980, Rison High School had the very first girls’ mile relay team in Arkansas to break the 4-minute barrier when the group won the event at the state Meet of Champions in a time of 3:56.5.
