Roberts Passes Williamson on Career Scoring List

WOODLAWN - While Jude Roberts may have played his final basketball game for the Woodlawn Bears, his legacy will live on in the record books not only at Woodlawn, but at the state level as well.After leading the Bears to the Class 2A state quarterfinals this season, Roberts wrapped up his high school career scoring 2,368 points. How does that stack up against the state’s best? Let’s just say Roberts passed former University of Arkansas and NBA star Corlis Williamson to take over the no. 17 position on the all-time Arkansas high school career scoring list.“It was like a surreal moment,” Roberts said about learning he had passed Williamson on the list. “He was on one of those all-time great Arkansas teams. He was an NBA player pretty well known around the league. It’s just incredible to know that I’m up there with those type of guys.”While Woodlawn does not have an official record, Bears Coach Logan Adair said Roberts is he would be hard pressed to find a more prolific scorer in school history. Roberts joined the varsity team in his freshman season with 10 games left and quickly moved into a starting role to become an integral part of the program ever since.Not only does he own the career scoring record, he also set a new single-game scoring record when he put up 53 in a win over Bearden back in November. That beat the previous record of 50 scored by Mike Stewart, which Adair pointed out was set before 3-pointers were part of the game. Roberts hit 18-of-28 field goals to shoot 64 percent from the field that night against Bearden while draining 6-of-10 from beyond the arch for 60 percent. He was 8-of-14 at the free throw line.“There were a lot of people there, and I play to the crowd,” Roberts recalled about his 53-point night. “I got to the rim early and I made some shots and saw the ball go through the hoop.
