LITTLE ROCK - Local residents will have an opportunity to pick up some free bare root tree seedlings during the Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s “Free Tree Friday” to be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 18, at the Pioneer Village, 200 Yaney Street in Rison.

Junk Hunters Keeping Eye On Weather This Weekend

RISON - Those selling and those buying will be keeping an eye on the weather this weekend as the Great South Arkansas Junk Hunt gets underway  Thursday through Sunday, April 3-6, at locations across southern Arkansas.

Walk to Honor Arkansas Cancer Patients May 3 in Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK - The Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences will host a "Be A Part of The Cure Walk" Saturday, May 3 in Little Rock.The walk to honor all Arkansas cancer patients will begin at 8 a.m. at War Memorial Stadium and Outdoor Course.

Veterans Benefits Clinic April 5

RISON - The US Department of Veterans Affairs will host a Veterans Benefits Clinic Saturday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cleveland County Veterans Building, 404 Sycamore Street in Rison.

Toys for Tots to Provide Books to Local Libraries

The local Toys for Tots Literacy Program has begun providing books to local libraries to help support literacy in our area. “We already have requests for over 1,000 books from our local libraries to be provided to summer reading participants,” Matthew Yarnell, Toys for Tots Coordinator, indicated.
The Rison High School Student of the Month for January for grades 7-9 is Maddie Shirey. Maddie is a freshman and is the daughter of Jeremy and Jessica Shirey. She is a member of the Sr. Beta Club and has cheered for two years for the Rison Junior High School Wildcats. Maddie is also an honor student.
