Grief Seminar To Be Held Saturday, Sunday in Rison

RISON - Jeff Jenkins of The Jenkins Institute in Alabama will be presenting "Hope for the Hurting: A Grief Seminar" this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 2324, at Rison Church of Christ, 6480 U.S. Hwy. 79 in Rison. The seminar will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, and at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept.

Flu Shot Clinic Set For Oct. 5

RISON - The Cleveland County Health Unit will host a drive-by Community Flu Vaccination Clinic Thursday, Oct. 5 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The clinic is weather permitting, for ages 6 and up. Please bring your insurance card and photo ID.

Rison Elementary Monday - chili cheese tots or hot ham & cheese. Tuesday - nachos or hamburger. Wednesday - Swedish meatballs or chicken sandwich with loaded mashed potatoes. Thursday - John Wayne Casserole or mini corndogs . Friday - Pizza, Pizza and sidekicks! Nachos for 4-6 grades.

Woodlawn Baseball Championship Ring Banquet Now. Oct. 2

WOODLAWN - Woodlawn Baseball Coach Tommy Richardson has announced that the 2023 State Championship Ring Presentation Banquet has been moved to Monday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m. at the Woodlawn School cafeteria. The banquet will be catered with fish. Tickets will be available at the door.

Jakes Day Taking Donations For Outdoor Items Drawing

RISON - The Cleveland County Cutters & Strutters Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) is currently taking donations to help fund prizes to be given away at its Jakes Day event scheduled for March 2, 2024, at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds in Rison.

CCSB Addresses Use of School Buildings

RISON - The Cleveland County School Board voted Monday night to have people using buildings at both the New Edinburg and Kingsland School campuses for non-school purposes to leave those buildings as the district considers its options about what to do with the properties in the future.

RISON - Alli Beth King was crowned Cleveland County Fair Queen at the 2023 Miss Cleveland County pageant held Friday evening at the Fairgrounds in Rison. Claire Socia  was crowned Junior Fair Queen. Gabrielle Frye was first runner up in the Fair Queen division.

Williams Presents 'Tight' 2023-24 Budget to Board

RISON - The Cleveland County School Board approved what Superintendent Jerrod Williams described as a "tight" budget for the 2023-24 school year during its regular monthly meeting Monday night.

County Fair Sees Big Increase in Entries

RISON - While overall attendance to the Cleveland County Fair was down this year, Fair Board President Roy Phillips reported that they did see a "significant increase" in the number of entries they received for the county fair exhibits as well as for the payout for those entries.

RISON - This year's Rison in the Fall Festival just three weeks away, set for Saturday, Oct. 7 in downtown Rison. Prior to headliner David Nail closing out the festival at 8 p.m., Chad Marshall Band will take the stage around 5 p.m.
