Williams Says He Will Not Ignore Facilities Needs

RISON - While new Cleveland County School District Superintendent Jerrod Williams said strengthening the district's bottom line will be his first priority, he said he has no intentions of ignoring any facility needs the district may have.

Jason Young Carries On Family Farming Tradition

RYE - Jason Young said he always knew he wanted to farm from an early age, but when he was getting ready to graduate from college, his father, Phillip Young, the 2005 Cleveland County Farm Family of the Year recipient, advised him to take a different route instead, if only for a while.

Cleveland County Quorum Court To Meet Monday

RISON - The Cleveland County Quorum Court has voted to move its July monthly meeting from Monday, July 3, to Monday, July 10, due to the Independence Day holiday. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Hall-Morgan Veterans Building. The quorum court usually meets the first Monday of each month.

Burning Road Grader Detours Traffic at Kingsland

KINGSLAND - Firefighters from the Kingsland Volunteer Fire Department work to extinguish the flames from a road grader that caught fire Friday morning, June 23, along Hwy. 79 at Kingsland. County Judge Jimmy Cummings confirmed that the grader belonged to the Cleveland County Road Department.

VBS July 16-20 at Rison Baptist

RISON - Rison Baptist Church will hold Vacation Bible School July 16-20 from 6 to 8 p.m. each night. Classes will be for ages 3 through going into 12th grade. Dinner will be served. The theme is Twists & Turns: Following Jesus Changes the Game, Psalm 25:4.

USDA Commodities To Be Distributed July 8 at Kingsland

KINGSLAND - The Open Door Community Pantry located at 650 Hwy. 97 in Kingsland will be handing out USDA commodities from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 8. Open Door Pantry usually distributes commodities on the second Saturday of each month. The pantry is an equal opportunity distributor.

RISON - Rison Shine has announced that this year's Rison in the Fall Festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 7 in Downtown Rison. Festival Organizer Douglas Boultinghouse is now accepting vendors for the event. He noted that food truck spaces have been filled.

JONESBORO - Arkansas State University has announced the list of students who completed degree requirements to graduate at Spring Commencement, held May 6 in First National Bank Arena. The list includes graduates from 46 states and 20 countries.

Emergency Response Training Class Set For July 18 at Rison

RISON - Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer with the new Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is invited to attend at meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, at the Hall-Morgan Veterans Building, 404 Sycamore Street across from the courthouse in Rison.
