Historical Society To Meet May 18

RISON - The Cleveland County Historical Society will meet Thursday, May 18 at 6 p.m. at the Cleveland County Library. Suzi Parker will present the program which will center on her many Cleveland County roots.

Freedom Assembly of God Launches Sunday in Rison

RISON - Freedom Assembly of God, formerly Trinity Faith and PBFA's Rison Campus, will relaunch this Sunday, May 14 at 10 a.m. with a special Mother's Day celebration service. Freedom Assembly welcomes new Pastor Kevin Hornaday, his wife Amber and their three daughters.

Local Lifters Win Titles at State Meet

(Editor's Note: Due to space constraints, more results will be published next week) RISON - Two lifters for Rison and one for Woodlawn won Class 3A and 2A state titles, respectively, while during the 2023 Arkansas High School Weightlifting Championships held Saturday at Lake Hamilton.

Rison Relay Champs Have Track Legacy

RISON - Winning at state track meets comes natural for members of the Rison Lady Wildcats' state championship 4x200 relay team. The Lady 'Cats dominated in the event as they won by nearly 3 seconds over second-place finisher Yellville-Summit at last week's Class 2A State Track Meeting at Quitman.

CCSD Receives Partnership Money for Cafeteria Add-On

RISON - The Cleveland County School District received some good news Monday when the Arkansas Public School Academic Facilities and Transportation Commission announced that the district had been awarded partnership funding to help pay for expanding the Rison School cafeteria.

Rison Hires New Baseball, Girls Basketball Coach

RISON - Chad Cope, the current baseball coach at Class 6A North Little Rock High School and a 1996 graduate of Rison High School, was approved as the new baseball coach for the Rison Wildcats during the Cleveland County School Board's regular monthly meeting Monday night.

Woodlawn Hires Principal; Gives Raise

WOODLAWN - The Woodlawn School Board accepted the resignation of Elementary Principal Barbara Varnell and approved the hiring of Heather Cox to be her replacement during its regular monthly meeting Monday night.

Taylor Holds Off Saeler To Keep CCSB Zone 3

RISON - Zone 3 representative Kelly Taylor kept her seat on the seven-member Cleveland County School Board by holding off challenger Steven Saeler by a 64-54 vote during Tuesday's school election. Both candidates were from the Kingsland area.
