'Cats Pull Away in Fourth Quarter; Down Lions 30-19

RISON - Cashing in on two of Bismarck's four second half turnovers, the Rison Wildcats broke open a tight game during the final quarter to down the Lions, 30-19, in the second round of the Class 3A state playoffs last Friday night at frigid George Walker Field of Champions.

County's Voter Turnout Among Best in Arkansas

RISON - Cleveland County had one of the best voter turnouts of any county in Arkansas during the Nov. 8 general election while the county seems to have solidified its shift toward the Republican party for local, state and federal races.

Local Schools Top Region's Report Cards

RISON - The Cleveland County and Woodlawn School Districts once again led Southeast Arkansas based on their "report card" scores as the schools in both districts finished at or near the top based on data released by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) earlier this month.

Woodlawn Board OKs Staff Payments

WOODLAWN - Teachers and staff working for the Woodlawn School District got an early Christmas present when the Woodlawn School Board approved Superintendent Kevin Hancock's recommendation to give each employee a one-time, non-recurring payment of $1,200 each.

Extension To Offer Class on Canning Salsa, Pickles Friday

RISON - The Cleveland County Cooperative Extension Office will be offering a Salsa and Pickles Canning Workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, at Cleveland County Fairgrounds meeting room/kitchen in Rison. LITTLE ROCK - According to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission's online harvest totals, hunters aged 6 to 15 checked 9,153 deer during the annual youth modern gun deer hunt held the weekend of Nov. 5-6.
