Historical Society Discusses Plans, Projects for New Year

The Cleveland County Historical Society met on March 20 at the Cleveland County Library in Rison with nine members present for the first meeting of 2025 and to plan for the rest of the year. The main topic of discussion was the best day and time to have meetings.

Bangs Vaccinations Scheduled April 14

RISON - Any person that has heifer cattle ages 4 to 12 months and would like to have them Bangs vaccinated, please call the Cleveland County Extension Office at 870-325-6321 by April 1. Please provide the number of heifers to be vaccinated as well as directions to your farm.

Woodlawn Student Accepted Into Art Exhibit

WOODLAWN - Woodlawn student Annie Davidson's artwork has been accepted into the 2025 Governor’s Young Artist Competition and Exhibit, hosted by the Governor and First Gentleman, at the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion. There will be an awards reception in May.

In addition, she said it has parts of bathroom fixtures and large pieces of metal in it as well. County Judge Jimmy Cummings said the county road departme nt will no longer use the rip-rap from the old nursing home demolition.

County Will Stop Using Rip-Rap From Old Nursing Home Rubble

RISON - Rubble from the former Cleveland County Nursing Home at Rison will no longer be used as "rip-rap" to shore up county roads against erosion after the rubble was found to have trash in it, County Judge Jimmy Cummings said.

Wildfires Prompt Burn Ban for County

RISON - Cleveland County remains under a burn ban after a number of wildfires were reported across the county last week.Cleveland County Judge Jimmy Cummings officially placed the county under a burn ban effective 8 a.m. last Thursday, March 20.
