UAM Students Serve as Judges in Regional FBLA Competition

MONTICELLO — On February 5, seven University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) students served as judges for the Arkansas Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) academic competition for Mid-Level District III, held on UAM’s Monticello campus.

Johnson Signs with SAU Cheer Team

RISON - Cayla Johnson, a senior at Rison High School, signed her letter of intent to cheer for the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia. Cayla served as the captain of the 2024-25 RHS cheer squad and has cheered for the Wildcats for six years.

Motion To Support New Prosecutor Job Fails To Get Second

RISON - An ordinance that would have funded a new position to assist the prosecutor’s office with filing paperwork for criminal cases in Cleveland and two other counties failed to come to vote during Monday night’s meeting of the Cleveland County Quorum Court.

Storms Bring Damaging Winds, Floods

RISON - Residents and local governments are cleaning up after several rounds of severe weather brought damaging winds, baseball-size hail and flooding rains to Cleveland County last week.

The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Department posted on social media that it had received several calls about the bridge being closed due to the floodwaters, but it never was. The water began to recede by Wednesday morning.

Saline River Expected to Crest Friday Morning at Rye Bridge

RISON - While the Saline River is not expected to crest in southern Cleveland County until later this week, the rising flood waters were already impacting local activities as of Tuesday.

Woodlawn School Board Meeting Postponed to April 15

WOODLAWN - The Woodlawn School Board meeting original scheduled for Monday, April 14 has been moved to Tuesday, April 15 at 6 p.m.Superintendent Kevin Hancock reminded those not registered to vote to register by April 14 to be eligible for the May school board election.
