Dumas completed a four-yard touchdown pass as time expired to lift the Bobcats to a wild 40-34 win over the Rison Wildcats in 8-3A conference play at Dumas Friday night.
Rison trailed 34-26 heading into the fourth quarter when the ‘Cats scored and converted the two-point conversion to tie the game, 34-34, and then recovered the ensuing kick attempt. Rison drove to the Dumas 10 for 1st-and-goal with about a minute left in the game, and quarterback Kyson Walker’s run would have set up a 4th-and-goal from about two yards out but the play was wipe out by offsetting facemask penalties.
The ‘Cats were then flagged for holding, moving the ball back to the Dumas 18. On the next play, the Bobcats intercepted a pass in the end zone and returned 95 yards down to the Rison 5. With the final seconds ticking off after a run play yielded one yard, Dumas hurried up another play and completed the four-pass to win the game as time expired.
Rison fell to 1-1 in conference play and 3-3 overall after the loss while Dumas improved to 2-0 in conference play, and 4-2 overall. Rison will host Drew Central this Friday night.
