Rison Coach Chris Vereen predicted a competitive 8-3A football conference, and early results confirm his expectations.
The Wildcats host the McGehee Owls starting at 7 p.m. at George Walker Field of Champions. Rison and McGehee both stand at 1-1 in league play, with every team in the conference owning at least two overall wins. Rison had a close win over Palestine-Wheatley but fell to Dumas on the last play of the game last week, 40-34.
McGehee rebounded from an opening loss to Drew Central with a big win against Lake Village. Vereen sees the Owls as a major threat considering their overall record of 2-3 is against a tough non-conference schedule and they had five starters out in the loss to Drew Central. Both teams feature strong junior quarterbacks and run-focused offenses.
