Rickey Spencer of Kingsland filed earlier today to run for county judge, becoming the fourth candidate seeking the 2026 Republican nomination for the position. Spencer joins Jim Houston of Rye, Stephen McClellan of New Edinburg, and Rosemary Sinclair of the Staves community as the candidates looking to fill the vacant seat left by the late Jimmy Cummings. In addition, there are three candidates running for sheriff in the Republican primary after Cleveland County Sheriff Deputy Michael Poss announced that he had decided to withdraw from the race and support Brad Young for the position. Young of the Rowell community, officially filed to run for sheriff on Monday followed by Lee Freeman and Keden Shrum, both of Rison, on Tuesday. All three are running in the Republican primary. The primary election will be held March 3, 2026.
