Woodlawn Board Approves Conceptual Budget for Cafeteria Addition

Body

The Woodlawn School Board voted Monday to approve a conceptual budget of $1.44 million for a cafeteria expansion after taking a week to review the proposal. Construction manager Brody Richardson previously presented the estimate, noting it was likely on the high side. Approval allows Richardson and architect David Porter to create more detailed plans to get a more exact estimate that expected to be presented in January. Should that cost be approved, Superintendent Dr. Kevin Hancock said hoped construction could begin in May. The project includes a 2,754-square-foot addition, a second serving line, and kitchen upgrades, enabling the district to reduce four lunch periods to two. Funding will come from a voter-approved 2-mill tax increase and nearly $400,000 in state partnership money.
