Woodlawn's Mills Attends Governor's School

LITTLE ROCK - Kane Mills, a senior at Woodlawn High School, was selected to attend the 2025 Arkansas Governor’s School at Arkansas Tech. The Arkansas Governor’s School is a four-week summer residential program for upcoming high school seniors who are residents of the state of Arkansas.

Emergency Vehicle Driving Course Held in New Edinburg

NEW EDINBURG - The New Edinburg, County Line and Bradley Rural Volunteer Fire Departments met recently in New Edinburg to conduct the Emergency Vehicle Driving Course.  Combined in the three departments were twenty-eight volunteer firemen that completed the required annual certification training.

CLEVELAND COUNTY 4-H BLACKSMITH CLUB - At the July meeting, the project was to make a pickup truck bed hook. Students honed their skills and got to take home a practical hand-crafted tool for their effort.
FAIR JUDGING SCHOOL - Cleveland County EHC recently hosted a successful fair judging school July 11 at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds meeting room, which was well-attended by EHC members from Cleveland County and surrounding counties. The guest speakers possessed a high level of expertise in their respective areas. As a result of this training, we are now ready to start judging at the county fairs. Lunch was provided for the class, sponsored by Cleveland County EHC.

Y CLUB MEETS, RECEIVES CART - On July 9, the 'Y' Extension Homemakers Club held its monthly meeting. Several items were discussed, and many projects and events were planned for the upcoming months. New officers were installed: President Mary Vallance, Vice President Connie Smith, Secretary Treill Meeks, and Treasurer Kay Mitchell. In loving memory of Eathel Meeks, a longtime member of the 'Y,' her son, Richard Meeks, donated a handmade cart to the organization.

NEW EDINBURG - Once again we can truthfully say our hearts were blessed with a wonderful get together! One would have not realized the temps were as high since the Bridge Creek Cabin was cool and very comfortable.

Toys for Tots Literacy Program at County Library

RISON - It was a day full of colorful stories at the Rison Library Wednesday, June 18 during the Color Our World Summer Reading Program. Local author and illustrator Matthew Yarnell provided two of his children’s books, Flome the Gnome and Flome the Gnome Counts to Twelve, for youth to enjoy.
