Woodlawn Senior Honored By Make-A-Wish Thursday

WOODLAWN - Gracie Holland, a senior at Woodlawn High School, will be honored Thursday, Sept. 19 with a reception from the Make-A-Wish organization.Make-A-Wish will host a party for Holland at 6 p.m. at the Woodlawn Community Center with cakes, cupcakes and more.

CCSB Considers Selling Kingsland Shop

RISON - The Cleveland County School Board decided Monday night to research the value of the former bus shop building at the Kingsland School campus before possibly seeking bids to sell it.

RISON - A 14-year-old student from Woodlawn High School was taken into custody by the Cleveland County Sheriff's Department last Wednesday night, Sept. 11, after allegedly making threats to another student about violence at school.

Construction Flagger Dies After Being Hit

RISON - Ulyess Chandler, Jr., 65, of Pine Bluff, died last Monday, Sept. 9, when he was struck by a pickup truck while flagging around a construction zone on the southbound side of Hwy. 79 at the Saline River bridge south of Rison.

Entries in County Fair See Increase This Year

RISON - The annual Cleveland County Fair wrapped up another year over the weekend.According to Fair President Roy Phillips, the fair saw an overall increase in points awarded for ribbons and cash payouts increasing by 25.34 percent from 2023 to 2024.

KINGSLAND - Hundreds of people that included visitors from across Arkansas and other states gathered at the Maple Street railroad crossing in Kingsland late Monday morning to get an up-close look at Union Pacific Railroad's Big Boy No. 4014, the world's largest operating steam locomotive.

Farm Conservation Day Set for Friday at County Fairgrounds

RISON - The Cleveland County Conservation District and the Arkansas Association of Conservation Districts will be hosting at Farmers Conservation Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds, 309 Mockingbird Lane in Rison. Lunch will be provided.
