Lady ‘Cats Turn Up Heat, Rout Fordyce

RISON - After trailing by as many as 13 in the second quarter, Rison’s freshman guard Teairra Miller and the Lady Wildcats completely flipped the script on the Fordyce Ladybugs in the second half as they dominated over the final two quarters for a 69-43 victory Tuesday night inside the Rison Gym.

Junior Lady Bears Split Their First Four Games

CARLISLE - The Carlisle Junior Lady Bison used a big third quarter to overcome a three-point deficit at halftime as they knocked off the Woodlawn Junior Lady Bears, 34-22, in the season opener last week at Carlisle.

Brinkley Holds Off Last-Minute Woodlawn Rally, 18-12

BRINKLEY - Brinkley’s Christian Williams intercepted a pass in the end zone with about 14 seconds left as the Tigers survived a series of late-game blunders at Tiger Stadium to edge the Woodlawn Bears, 18-12, in a clash last Friday night to determine the no. 2 seed from the South Conference.

Bears Meet Cedar Ridge in Round 1

WOODLAWN - The Woodlawn Bears will open the eight-man football playoffs with a trip to Cedar Ridge High School near Newark (Independence County) to face the Timberwolves at 7 p.m. Friday.Cedar Ridge is the no. 2 seed from the eight-man North Conference.

Lady Wildcats Take 12th at 3A Cross Country

HOT SPRINGS - The Rison Lady Wildcat cross country team finished 12th in the team standings at the Class 3A Arkansas State Championship Cross Country Meet held this past Saturday at Oaklawn in Hot Springs.The Lady Wildcats had 287 points in the Class 3A meet won by Providence Academy from Rogers.

BRINKLEY - Brinkley had couple of big plays that led to touchdowns as the Junior Tigers knocked off the Woodlawn Junior Bears, 24-14, in the season finale Friday afternoon at Tiger Stadium in Brinkley.

Conversion Is Difference, as Fordyce Nips Rison, 30-28

FORDYCE - With the game atmosphere at a fever pitch, the Fordyce Redbugs stopped a two-point conversion try by Rison with less than 3 minutes to go in the contest, and then held on to edge the Wildcats, 30-28, in a battle for the top of the 8-3A Conference race last Friday night.

Bears Overcome Slow Start, Blow Out Marvell 64-26

MARVELL - Early on, it looked as though the Woodlawn Bears might be in for another dogfight with the underdog Marvell Mustangs.In their last trip to Marvell two years ago, the Bears were clinging to a 16-12 lead entering the fourth quarter before pulling away late for a 40-20 win.
