RISON - Palestine-Wheatley pitcher Jacob Hickman managed to escape some early scoring opportunities unscathed last Thursday as he guided the Patriots to a 5-1 victory over the Rison Wildcats in the first round the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament at Greenland High School.

RISON - Logan Grubb and Ryan Cottrell both won Class 3A state titles while Steven Shaddock placed second in their respective weight divisions at the Arkansas Weightlifting Championships held May 6 at Lake Hamilton High School. As a team, Rison's lift total of 4,245 lbs.

HORATIO - Going into last week's Class 2A South Region Baseball Tournament at Horatio, Rison Baseball Coach Josh Smeltzer said he felt his Wildcats were probably the second best team from the 8-2A conference. It turned out that he was wrong - the 'Cats were the second best team in the region.
