Rison Completes First Water Tank, Second Ready to Begin

RISON - The city's water and wastewater systems were the primary focus of the Rison City Council meeting Tuesday night as utilities director Joe Freyer gave an update on some ongoing improvement projects while the council approved an water rate ordinance that was needed for a new grant application.
NEW MARKER FOR COACH PAUL “BEAR” BRYANT - Family members of the late Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant (left) and Marty Ryall, director of Arkansas Heritage, unveiled a new state historical marker designating the boyhood home of the legendary college football coach. Born in 1913 in Moro Bottom, Bryant grew up near the Smith Chapel community in southwestern Cleveland County. The marker is located on Hwy. 8 between Fordyce and New Edinburg.

Great South Arkansas Junk Hunt Begins Next Week in County

RISON - The fall run of the Great South Arkansas Junk Hunt is set for next week, following the expanded route established this past spring.The four-day hunt runs Thursday, Oct. 10 through Sunday, Oct. 13 across the southern portion of the state featuring more than 600 miles of yard sales.

Rodeo This Weekend at Fairgrounds Arena

RISON - The Cleveland County Fair Association will host a rodeo this Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Fairgrounds Arena.The rodeo will begin at 8 p.m. nightly, with books opening at 6:30 p.m.Average buckles will be awarded, as well as $4,500 in added prize money.
