Pioneer Crafts Festival To Be Held Saturday

RISON - The Pioneer Crafts Festival is set for this weekend with the annual Beans & Greens Supper starting at 5 p.m. Friday, April 10, and the festival itself kicking off at 9 a.m. Saturday. Admission is free.

County Facilities Dominate Quorum Court Meeting

RISON - Most of Monday night’s regular monthly meeting of the Cleveland County Quorum Court dealt with projects related to county-owned facilities, ranging from the solid waste transfer state to the elevator inside the courthouse.

Young Finishes Second A Chess Tournament

WOODLAWN - Isaac Young, a 3rd grader at Woodlawn Elementary, placed second in the Southeast Arkansas Education Cooperative 3rd/4th grade chess tournament held in Monticello. Young placed second among 41 players from Drew Central, Hermitage, McGehee, Monticello, and Woodlawn schools.

Woodlawn Wins Regional Cubing Competition

WOODLAWN - Woodlawn students ranging from 4th grade all the way up to 12th grade attended the SEARK Cubing Competition at Southeast Arkansas Education Cooperative  in Monticello. Teams made up of six members are required to work together to solve 25 cubes in the best possible time.

Houston Wins County Judge Runoff

RISON - Jim Houston of the Rye community won the Republican primary runoff over Stephen McClellan of New Edinburg, 568-435, Tuesday for Cleveland County Judge. Houston will be unopposed in the upcoming November general election since there are no other candidates in the race.
