Rison Beta Club Excels At Conv., Dedman Elected

RISON - Dylan Dedman, a junior at Rison High School, was elected as the Arkansas State Beta Club Secretary in the 81st annual Arkansas Senior Beta Club Convention. This is the eighth consecutive secretarial candidate win for Rison High School. The candidate's campaign skit placed 5th overall.

Election Equipment Testing Is Thursday

RISON - The County Board of Election Commission will conduct a public test of election equipment on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. in the Hall-Morgan Veteran's Building at 404 Sycamore Street in Rison. The public is encouraged to observe.

Cummings Sees Slow Progress on Roads

RISON - County Judge Jimmy Cummings informed the Cleveland County Quorum Court Monday night that the county road department has a challenge on its hands trying to repair county roads in the wake of an extended winter storm followed by heavy rain.

RISON - The Cleveland County Broadband Committee will soon be launching an effort to encourage county residents to test their internet speeds to get a true picture of the speed available in the county.

NEW RAMPS - Using leftover money from the FUN Park grant, Mayor Charles Roberts added new ramps to the restrooms at Veterans Park. Once the improvements are completed, he said he intends to open them for special occasions at the park.

Rison Approves Firm To Oversee Water, Sewer Work

RISON - The Rison City Council unanimously approved hiring Tolm Group of Morrilton during its regular monthly meeting Tuesday night to serve as the construction manager to oversee the renovations to the city's wastewater treatment plant as well as refurbishing both city water tanks.

Mt. Olivet To Host Food Bank Feb. 10

CALMER - Mount Olivet Methodist Church at Calmer will have its Food Bank from 7 to 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, the church has announced.  Mount Olivet is located at the Hwy. 63/ Hwy. 114 junction at Calmer. The food bank is held the second Saturday of each month.
